Day 7 – Evan Carter

Today we traveled from Munich to Rotterdam, there was a lot of public transit and it was mentally exhausting. When we got to Rotterdam, we dropped off out bags at the hotel and embarked on our food tour which introduced us to some important parts of Dutch cuisine. Some of these included Stroopwafel, fries and mayo, and Dutch port wine with cheeses. Along the way to the various food stops we also got to sightsee and learn more about Rotterdam’s history. I found it interesting how Rotterdam’s WW2 past has shaped the way the city is built today. During WW2, 90% of the original city was destroyed by Germany. Because they had a fresh slate after the war, the decided to build the city for the future, incorporating modern architecture and a road system built for automobiles. This is why Rotterdam compared to many other old European cities, looks incredibly modern and spacious.
