Day 2 – Evan Carter

Today we got to see how Mercedes-Benz and Porsche manufacture their vehicles. I found it very interesting seeing up-close how both companies integrated automation and robotics with humans and perfected just in time production strategies to make their processes as efficient as possible. Something that stood out when we toured Mercedes-Benz is just how large their operation was. They quite literally built a mini city dedicated to providing everything needed to support large-scale production, having their own fire and police services as well as their own power plant. Another thing that stood out was how they literally changed the weather to avoid severe weather damaging their vehicles during shipping. One of the biggest things that stood out when we toured Porsche is just insane when it comes to the amount of customization options available. It is virtually unlimited and only limit is the amount of money you have to spend.
