Unfortunately this Saturday is our last full day together, today we went to go something we needed to see but not something that was easy to see. Today we went to see Dachau concentration camp, the first ever Nazi concentration camp. Dachau was not a concentration Camp for Jewish people, but rather it was a camp for Nazi opposition within Germany. Anyone from criminals, minorities, societal misfits, and people from other cultures were sent here. The memorial that survives today pays homage to the over 45,000 casualties to the camp and the total of 200,000 that passed through the camp. After visiting the camp I found that it was easy to sympathize with victims of Nazi brutality but I struggled to understand the perspective of the people who enabled this to happen. Its hard to understand what captivated the German people to turn on those around them and completely tear apart what it meant to be human. Hopefully these scars on humanity can at least guide us towards a better path. The picture above is not a picture of the concentration camp but rather our last dinner together, I found it quite hard to take pictures at the camp when I was there.
