Dachau was extremely disturbing and depressing, but it remains an important part of history. I was surprised to learn that Dachau was primarily a labor camp, not a death camp, as I had previously believed. I was also disappointed to learn that the original barracks had been torn down by the German government. The most impactful part of the tour was walking through the gas chamber and the rooms where bodies were stored. It was one of the most unsettling and emotionally difficult experiences I have ever had.
