I learned a lot today about the governing laws across 70% of Earth’s total surface area, the ocean. Particularly, what is to be done when these governing laws of the water are broken. We had the opportunity to sit down with students from Erasmus University in Rotterdam and have a discussion about this very topic. Our unity was tested when we discussed topics like the straight of Hamus and the actions our countries should take. Despite the diverse opinions, I believe everyone present at least understood the underlying reasons, and that history can help us understand the implications of the present. I’m grateful for the opportunity to participate in this discussion. We concluded the day aboard the SS Rotterdam, previously a Rotterdam > Elise Island immigration ship that has since transformed into a hotel and restaurant. You can see me piloting the ship in the photo.
