Today was a lot more open-ended than some other days. I did laundry in the morning, which took so long that I missed the meet time for Amsterdam and had to play catchup. I did manage, though, and arrived in Amsterdam not long after the rest of the group.
Amsterdam is interesting, because I did have some preconceived notions from other people who had been there. It kind of played into those expectations, and kind of defied them. Firstly, Amsterdam is probably the most progressive city I’ve ever visited, bar none. I confess I’m a little surprised what all the city’s inhabitants will tolerate. I spent sometime just wandering the streets, and they have some beautiful architecture. I also found a couple record stores and was fortunate enough to find some that I would probably struggle to find in the States. Overall, Amsterdam was an interesting place, very eye-opening. Given my lateness to joining the group, I feel I may have missed some information that will have helped me view the city in a more historical light, as I know it is an old city, and was a battlefield during WWII.
