Day 6 – Risner

Today was the most important and Impactful day of the trip. We visited Dachau, the camp that was the model in the genocide caused in World War II. US World History classes don’t give you the full sense of how impactful these camps were on the people inside and the outside communities. Standing in a camp, and in a gas chamber gives you a sense of how terrible and how much of a atrocity these camps were. These camps stand as a reminder that we cannot allow dictators like the ones in WWII to rise again. They stand as a reminder that democracy must be protected in every form and not be abused by powers that only act in their own interest. The visit to the camp was more than just a realization of how bad the camps really were, it was a reminder that powerful speakers; while they may seem like they have everyone’s interest in mind; also act in their own interest. Speech and Pen are a powerful tool that used in the wrong setting can lead to atrocities to occur. Unlike many of the other places we have visited, I only have one photo from the camp. This photo is of a sculpture in the middle of the camp.
