Today was an eventful and long day. We started by having a cultural learning class focused on both verbal and non-verbal communication. There, Dr. Jones help further explain how the directness or indirectness of a conversation is based on a commonality to a culture and how to adapt to different ways that something can be said so as to not mistakenly take offense. Additionally, he discussed the four main type of people when interacting with others and how some types do not intermix as well.
After we finished our class with him, the majority of us used our free time to checkout early and visit the Mercedes-Benz Museum. There, we toured the 8 floors of history that not only focused on the company, also some major events that took place in each decade and other events that were influential to designs. After completing the tour, we made our way back and boarded a bus to visit the Porsche Factory. There, the methods of robotic integrated assistant was more visible comparatively to the fully automated production of Mercedes Benz. Not only that, the layout of the floors were more adapted to have rest and little office spaces on the work floor instead of fully focusing on production.
Finally, to end the night, we had dinner with our hosts at Reutlingen University. Some students got to talk to them more about what they currently do with their Werk 150 program or current studies. I only had a brief opportunity to talk with a few of them were we discussed the benefits and differences of the factories.
