This morning our group took a tour of the Mercedes plant in Sindelfingen. The level or automation and precision that goes into making these machines is incredible, but as far as integrating AI into the process goes, I think that Mercedes has some work to do. That’s not to say the plant was not high tech. The robot arms welding and cauterizing the car parts were extremely powerful and precise, and there were self guided carts moving around the factory floor. The rest of the day was spent venturing around Stuttgart on the hop on hop off tour, which was very interesting and fun. Stopping in at a local winery, I had the opportunity to use some of the german I learned before the trip, as the owners did not speak english.
