Dachau was eye opening. I almost threw up viewing the crematoriums at Dachau. I cried. I am not too proud or macho to admit that, but the capacity for man’s cruelty is immense. There are names and faves for every victim, guard, and townsman of Dachau. Men that died proudly, afraid, or without any recognition at all were still killed where they stood, dead as the man next to them. What Dachau taught me is that we are mortal, with an immortal soul and that we owe it to each other to build each other up and advance humanity as a whole every day.
Man’s capacity for cruelty may be immense, but so is his capacity for good. We are given a sunrise everyday to make the world better for the man next to us and it would be. great failure if we didn’t help a lady with the door or buy our friends another round.
